When I was younger, I dreamed of living in LA.
The older I get, the less I actually want to live there. That doesn’t mean I don’t travel there – over and over again. Los Angeles is a beautiful bubble. It’s also the gateway to my most visited location outside of Europe: Indio, California for the Coachella Music & Arts Festival.
As a European who loves to walk, this city is a toughie. I walk regardless. I walk a lot. But aside from the homeless population on the streets, no one else really does. Just something you should be aware of when visiting. Rent a car to make your life easy and experience the true LA-lifestyle. There’s nothing quite like being stuck in traffic, and looking out at those palm tree lined streets while the sun sets.
For those of you that know me, you know I appreciate good food. And whilst eating out is pricey on a European salary, it is also incredibly delicious. You know what else is delicious here? Cupcakes and donuts. I went on a bit of a donut binge during my last trip, and think it’s safe to say I found the best glazed donut of my life at the family-run California Donut.
LA offers such a variety of experiences – from stunning beaches, incredible international cuisine, fun workouts, interactive museums, and much more. Yet my absolute favorite experience is spending time at the Griffith Observatory regardless of the time of day or night. If you go up after sunset, you’ll be dazzled by the city lights as far as the eyes can see. It’s the one spot in the city of angels that I keep coming back to. I wonder if it will be the same for you.

“LA is beautiful if you are willing to look beyond its superficial surface. The proximity to nature without sacrificing big city life is one of LA’s greatest assets. We enjoy long walks in the Los Feliz hills with our dog. Not to be missed is brunch at Gjusta in Venice and dinner at Grá for sourdough pizza in Echo Park.”
